One of the things that makes miniature dachshunds so special is how much variety you get in one little breed. From sleek and polished to soft and wispy to bold and eye-catching, every coat type has its own look and its own kind of charm. At Isle of Doxies, we breed across all the major coat varieties, including some of the rarest patterns you’ll find anywhere. Here’s what you can expect from each one.

Miniature Dachshund Puppies in Rare Coats, Classic Colors & Everything Between
Whatever you pictured when you imagined your perfect dachshund, there’s a good chance we have that puppy.
Smooth Coat
This is the classic dachshund look: short, shiny fur that lays close to the body and shows off every muscle and curve of that iconic silhouette. Smooth coats are low-maintenance and easy to keep clean, which makes them a favorite with busy families and seniors alike. They come in a wide range of colors and are often described as the most traditional dachshund in appearance.
Long-Haired
Long-haired miniature dachshunds have a soft, flowing coat that feathers gently around the ears, chest, and tail, and they tend to look a little like tiny, elegant hounds. Many owners describe them as slightly calmer and more gentle in temperament than their smooth-coated siblings, though every dog is its own personality. They require a bit more brushing, but most owners say the silky softness is completely worth it.
Wire-Haired
Wire-haired dachshunds have a dense, rough outer coat and a softer undercoat, giving them a scruffy, distinguished look that turns heads on every walk. They’re known for being playful, bold, and a little mischievous, full of personality in a compact package. If you want a dachshund with a bit of extra character, the wire-haired variety tends to deliver.
Dapple
Dapple is one of the most striking coat patterns in the dachshund world. It produces a mottled, swirled effect of lighter patches across a darker base color, and no two dapple dogs look exactly alike. The result can range from subtle and sophisticated to dramatically eye-catching, depending on how the pattern expresses. Dapple puppies are highly sought after and availability is limited, so joining our waitlist early is the best way to secure one.
Piebald
Piebald dachshunds have a white base coat with distinct patches of color. Think bold, symmetrical markings that give each dog a look completely their own. The contrast between the white and the colored patches is clean and striking, and piebald dogs tend to draw a lot of admiring attention. Like dapples, piebalds are a specialty coat pattern that we’re proud to breed carefully and responsibly.
Rare & Specialty Patterns
Beyond dapple and piebald, we occasionally produce some of the rarest coat combinations in the miniature dachshund world, including double dapple, brindle, and stunning multi-pattern crosses that are genuinely hard to find from a responsible breeder. These puppies are among the most visually unique you’ll encounter, and they go quickly. If you’re looking for a miniature dachshund with a truly rare coat, getting on our waitlist is the best first step.
